Lagbaja’s Koko below was booming out of the speakers. Although piercing, the sound wasn’t too unbearable and we had a suitable distraction – the dance floor. Packed with kids here to celebrate their contemporary’s birthday I knew we were out of place.
It wasn’t long before we forgot about the music and started to get really entertained. On the dance floor were 2 kids – one male, the other female. As the music played they danced – neither was very good but they tried, so much so it was obvious to the audience they were putting a lot into it.
The music soon changed and the celebrant’s special number came up – it was from Michael Jackson’s Thriller album (vaguely remember which song exactly now). Regardless, the pair danced on – now they had the attention of a lot of the hall. The boy was shuffling and the girl was doing a spiral dance where she wiggled from the top of her head downwards with her hand and index finger pointed upwards. In fact she did an assortment of dances – it was entertaining and captivating to watch.
Suddenly from the back of the hall, there was a commotion. A man was pushing through to get to the front and seemed in a rush. On getting there, he pulled the dancing pair off the dance floor. Curious, I asked “Who is he??” My aunt replied “He’s the pastor of our church and those two kids are his children – they hardly even clap their hands in church!!”
